The Schedule of the workshops

The exact schedule depends on each instructor and workshop since the instructors are given the freedom to do their own workshops as they like. You will receive the exact schedule of the workshop that you’ve registered one month before the workshop date. The workshop generally involves portfolio reviews, lectures, shooting and editing. Apart of that there are some other events like welcome party, common dinners, slide shows etc.

Workshops start on Sunday or Monday, below you will see a rough schedule of a workshop, a detailed schedule will be sent to the registrars before the workshop starts.

1st day

- 5 to 6 p.m. arrival and registration
- 6.30 p.m. meeting with other students and the instructors
- 8.00 p.m. gala dinner

2nd to 6th day

The schedule during the weekdays will be announced by instructors.There will be slide shows in the evenings.

7th day

-9.00 p.m. Dinner and slideshow of the students,  work of the week, followed by Final Party.

8th day

- Last meeting with the teachers to review some last theoretical and practical points, discuss and suggest possible future professional projects. The workshop is over at noon.

- 12.00 check out from your room.

 

Coming to Istanbul

Air

There are 2 airports in Istanbul. Atatürk Airport is on the European side and closer to the workshop venue.Taxi to the Ayasofya Mansions should be around 40 TL (€ 20) and you can also come by tram from the Atatürk Airport.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport is on the Asian side, a taxi should be around 100 TL (€ 50).

There are regular shuttle buses and city buses connects Taksim with both airports.

Rail

The last train station in Europe, Sirkeci train station is only 10 minutes walk from the Ayasofya Mansions. If you arrive to Istanbul from Europe by train you will be in walking distance to the venue of the workshop.

Car

Driving is not recommended in Istanbul due to the traffic jam and also the roads are very confusing for outsiders. It’s better to use public transport and taxis. A survival transportation kit in Istanbul will be given to the students that will register.

When to come

We recommend you to arrive one day before the workshop start for orientation and minimize the effects of the jetlag. That will also give you time to check into your room, relax and be ready for the first meeting on Monday where you will meet your teacher and fellow students.The accommodation packages includes 7 nights stay from Sunday to Sunday.

When to depart

The one-week workshops end at noon on Sunday. Except for the students staying for more than one week, all students are required to check out from their room by 12 am.

Accommodation

Ayasofya Mansions are 19th century Ottoman Houses converted to a fine hotel in the heart of the Old City. The theoretical lessons also will be taught here.

Internet

There is wireless Internet connection in Ayasofya Mansions where the workshop lessons will be taught.

Registration

We limit our workshops with 15 students per class. Some workshops depending on their concept and workshops taught by two instructors will be limited to maximum of 20 students.

You can register anytime before the workshop date but because of the small size of the classes it is better to register as early as possible since the classes may fill up quickly.

You must send a deposit equal to € 500 in Turkish Lira for each participiant to secure your place for the workshop.

Companions

You can come with a companion, such as members of your family or friends, who will not be joining the workshop. In that case, your only extra cost will be for accommodation and meals. We also offer accommodation packages where 2 persons can stay in the same room and apartment renting opportunities for 3 to 5 people. You can enjoy one of the greatest cities of the world with your family and friends while improving your photography skills.

Waiting List

When one of our courses fills up we will open a waiting list for people who want to try to get into the class, if there are any last minute cancellation. You will be entered in the wait list once we receive your enrolment form. In this case you don’t need to send any deposit. As soon as we have any opening in the class we will let you know and you will need to pay the deposit to secure your place in the class.

Workshop Cancellation / Refunds

When working with professional photographers a last minute assignment may force them to cancel a workshop. In these case the students can choose either to be fully reimbursed (minus wiring fees and commissions) or transferred to another course.

If you decide to cancel at least 30 days before the workshop start, we will reimburse all fees you’ve already paid minus € 100 administrative fee.

If you cancel in less than 30 days before the workshop start you will lose your down payment. There will be no refund of any fee for withdrawing after the workshop has begun.

Istanbul Photography Workshops is not responsible for the travel expenses in case a workshop is canceled. We recommend that you buy refundable plane tickets or travel insurance.

You can also transfer between workshops by notifying 15 days before your workshop starts.

Discount

Alumni students will receive 10% discount in their 2nd and following workshops.

Payment

To confirm your registration, you can either pay the deposit of € 500 (will be charged in Turkish Lira in the daily exchange rate of the transfer) or the total amount. The balance is due 40 days before the beginning of your workshop.

Payments can be made by PayPal or wiring the workshop fee to the bank account.

What to bring

Your photographic equipment, notebook, tripod and any other photographic tools that you may need during the workshop. Also a selection of your work for a portfolio review by your instructor.
We don’t have spare computers to be used, so please bring your laptops with you.

Insurance

IST is not responsible for personal injuries or equipment damage during the workshop. The signing of the enrolment form releases IST from any liability. IST is not responsible for reimbursement of travel expenses in case a workshop is canceled. We recommend you buy refundable air ticket or travel insurance.
